About us

We are a chemical biology lab in the U. C. San Diego Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry, and the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Our research goal is to create new chemical tools and therapeutic approaches for better understanding and treatment of disease, with a focus on neurodegeneration and neurooncology. To achieve this we harness a broad range of techniques including medicinal chemistry, biophysics, chemoproteomics and cell biology.

U. C. San Diego provides an outstanding environment for training, where colleagues include world-class basic scientists, pharmacists and physicians. There are abundant opportunities for collaboration with other research groups at UCSD, and at neighboring institutions. We are currently recruiting for several positions, listed below!

Postdoctoral Research Fellows

Applicants must possess, or be about to defend, a Ph.D. Candidates with a background in synthetic organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, proteomics or working with iPSC-derived organoid and neuronal model systems are especially encouraged to apply.

To apply, please email a cover letter describing relevant experience and research interests, a CV, and contact information for three references to fmferguson (at) ucsd.edu.

Graduate Students

UCSD graduate students, MD/PhD and PharmD/PhD students should email Fleur Ferguson about rotations. Please include a CV, and a paragraph describing relevant experience and research interests. Prospective graduate students should apply directly to the Ph.D program in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry, the Biomedical Sciences Program, or the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Students who are interested in joining the laboratory for their master thesis projects are encouraged to email Fleur Ferguson to enquire about opportunities.

Undergraduate Students

We welcome students interested in participating in laboratory research via the undergraduate research programs in the UCSD Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry. Please email Fleur Ferguson to enquire about opportunities, and include a CV.
